Tommee Tippee Grobag Review [Should You Buy This Swaddle Bag?]

Are you struggling to get your newborn down to sleep? Are you concerned they are not warm enough or just want to provide them with additional support and comfort when not in your arms?

Have you come across the Tommee Tippee Grobag and are wondering whether it can help and whether or not you should buy (and try) it?

Then you’ve come to the right place.

With a very young newborn that we, as in my husband and I, couldn’t get to settle, we decided to purchase this particular swaddle bag to see if it could help our little new one (and us) get the sleep that we desperately needed.

Since purchasing, we have been using the Grobag pretty consistently. I would love to share my thoughts and experiences here with you today.

Tommee Tippee Grobag

Quick Verdict

If you are looking for a comfortable, practical, and effective swaddle bag for your baby, then I would strongly recommend the Tommee Tippee Grobag

It’s very well designed, easy to get on and off, and, most importantly, keeps a baby calm, warm, and comforted at all times when being worn.

It got our baby settled when other brands of swaddle bags didn’t.

This is the swaddle bag to get.

Why Did We Buy The Tommee Tippee Grobag?

We purchased the Tommee Tippee Grobag when our baby was 12 days old. 12 days of difficult, sleepless nights where our baby just would not go (or stay down) – particularly on his back. Particularly at night. Particularly in his crib.

We had heard a lot about swaddling a baby and how this approach could help overcome our baby’s inability to lie still.

We were actually given a secondhand swaddle bag by a friend who no longer needed it for her own baby.

We tried this on nights 5 through to 9. With no real success.

We then tried the cellular blanket swaddle method (where you tuck it in under the next-to-me crib and around the baby’s lower half) on nights 9 through to 11.

Again. No results.

A restless, crying baby

I then took to Google, ran some searches, did some research and we finally landed on the Tommee Tippee Grobag.

We thought it was worth a shot.

So I made the purchase, and hoped.

What We Like About The Tommee Tippee Grobag

We have been incredibly impressed with the Tommee Tippee Grobag. Our baby has made significant improvements, being able to lie on his back for much longer periods and even sleep in his next-to-me crib. Something we hadn’t managed to get to prior to use.

Other than this, I have also been impressed with a range of features. Below, I will walk through those most pertinent for this particular swaddle bag.

Ease Of Getting On/Off

As any new parents know, getting their baby in and out of clothes is a challenge.

It’s often a time of crying, frustration, and despair.

That needn’t be the case with the Grobag.

It’s very easy to put on (over your clothed baby).

You just need to lay it out flat, place your baby on top, and zip downward (from the top to the bottom).

Zip and Zip Position

Onto the zip – which is personally one of my favorite features.

In one zip you have the entire swaddle bag on, and secure.

It’s also conveniently placed slightly off-center, making it much easier to open/close and not get caught in your baby’s grow.

Arm Positions

A lot of swaddle bags on the market either keep the arms forced in, or raised above the head permanently.

You or your baby do not have a choice where their arms can go.

As you can imagine, there are problems with this.

We found that (with another brand of swaddle bag) our baby hated their arms being permanently placed above their head.

With the Grobag, you can either choose to keep your babies arms locked in, or tucked out via the arm pockets on each side (which can be buttoned up to secure your babies arm in place and to make getting the Grobag on easier).

It suits the preferences of our baby – stopping them from fighting and getting agitated, waking them up in the process.

You can benefit from the same.

Size and Dimensions

The Grobag is available in several different sizes, with 0-3 months and 3-6 months being the most popular.

We found that the 0-3 month swaddle bag was perfectly sized for our baby.

Snug in all the right places, but with plenty of room for him to move his legs about (if desired) and to grow into.

Tog Options

The Grobag is available in three different togs (0.2, 1 and 2.5)

Tog essentially refers to how thick it is like you get with bed duvets.

This is great because you can buy one that matches the season.

So if it’s particularly cold when your baby is born (or they are a winter baby), you can opt for the higher 2.5 togs.

Or, if it’s in the summer or your house is particularly warm, you can opt for the 0.2.

We went in between and opted for the 1.0 tog.

It’s a great thickness and a nice balance between the two.

Material Quality/Comfort

All Tommee Tippee Grobags are made from 100% cotton.

So they are super soft and easy-washing, and they retain their comfort/shape even after being washed!

Colors/Designs

These Grobags are available in a number of different colors and designs.

Whether you are after something to match your baby’s gender or want to go for something a little more out there.

The designs are beautiful, and there’s a nice amount of choice depending on your preferences.

Would I Recommend The Tommee Tippee Grobag?

I would strongly recommend a Tommee Tippee Grobag to any new parents who want to settle their baby, help them adjust to being on their back, and promote longer, deeper periods of sleep.

For the price, the Grobags offers a lot of benefits with very few downsides.

In fact, we tend to leave our baby in the Grobag for most of the day now – it’s been that effective, and it has stopped him from putting his hands in his mouth/scratching his face.

For us, the Grobag has completely transformed how our baby sleeps. Something we were really struggling with in the first week of his life.

And not just that.

Our baby took to this swaddle bag, when he didn’t take to others.

It is, for this reason, we would wholeheartedly recommend it.

If you are low on sleep and your baby just won’t settle, the cost of the swaddle bag is just a small price to pay.

Trust me!

Now when it comes to buying, I would suggest you also do so from Amazon.

You can benefit from the swift Prime delivery, a 30-day returns policy (should you get the wrong size, tog or change your mind), and you’ll likely get the best (often discounted) price:

FAQs

Are Grobags safe for newborns?

Grobags are safe for newborns so long as they fit properly and are put on correctly. This is because they have fitted neck and arm holes, plus a secure zip keeping babies safely held inside. Hence, a baby will not have their head covered while sleeping – ensuring they can safely breathe.

How many hours a day can you swaddle a newborn?

You can keep a newborn swaddled for up to 20 hours per day.
